Mobile Games

Mobile games technology has moved a long way since the highly addictive "Snake" on Nokia mobiles first let us pit our wits against our phones and then via IRDA (Infra Red link) against each other. The latest developments include custom designed gaming platforms such as the Nokia n-gage and the b'ngo from TTPCom, which not only introduce dedicated game controls and use specialist game engines but also allow wireless multiplayer games over Bluetooth and GPRS.

Many modern handsets support the download of java games, however originally java was not optimised for mobile phones nor is it optimised for game development so there are now many different versions of java in use for mobile game development, each tweeked to obtain higher performance in some aspect or another or to suit a particular handset platform, this has led to incompatabilty issues.

Game engines such as WGE, Morphun have enabled a much more console like gaming experience.
